    Location Map

The new community health department was started. Students and teaching staff visit local villages/ Public Health Centres and work with the government on Mother and Child Health, malaria, TB and leprosy programs. The government is considering their application for registration under the National Rural Health Mission for provision of emergency obstetric care.

This year a focus was made on providing high quality obstetric facilities for poor patients. Some simple steps were taken to ensure this. Pregnant women could see the doctor as soon as they came to the hospital. Doctors in local hospitals could refer patients at any time and information was given about facilities and the charity benefits available for the poor patients. Danger signs were explained in detail to every pregnant lady. Local auto rickshaw drivers were encouraged to provide free transport to women in labour. Traditional birth attendants were taught new protocols. Patients in poor communities were encouraged to come with whatever money they had – many received generous charity and carried the message to their villages. All patients were prayed for at their bedsides and their fears and anxieties were allayed
