The Baptist Christian Hospital is a 130-bedded hospital situated in Tezpur town of Sonitpur District and serves the people of Assam. The hospital traces its history to February 1947, when the North Bank Medical Association decided to set up a hospital and mobile medical Gospel unit in Tezpur. The outpatient dispensary started functioning from November 1950 and the name Baptist Christian Hospital given. The hospital started with 30 beds and in 1956 another ward was added with 26 beds. In the first year, the hospital treated 716 inpatients & 9696 out-patients and conducted 337 surgical cases and 33 delivery cases. The School of Nursing was started in 1955 by Miss a. Jensen and Miss B. Person and had six students. The hospital was formally incorporated into EHA on October 1, 2004, and has witnessed unprecedented growth both in inpatient & out-patient numbers.

Key Accomplishments
“Children at Risk” program – The children focused Malaria control project was launched in the malaria affected area of Udalguri district. The project was formally inaugurated on February 2007. The community outreach work will be conducted in collaboration with churches and other like minded NGOs. The hospital continued its strategy of charging less fees from the patients. No patient was turned off because of their inability to pay. Arrangements were made with the patients for deferred payment. Poor patients were given full or partial free treatment depending on their capability to pay. |
