A practical regime to promote “Transparency and Accountability”

  

SAHYOG Project, unit of EHA organised a workshop on RTI (Right to Information Act), first of its kind as part of  its advocacy measures at Delhi. The workshop on 23rd and 24th of September,   mainly focused the grassroot level workers from different non-governmental organisations across the country. It encouraged 28 participants towards good community  governance by creating awareness on the Act.

Moreover, it highlighted the major role NGO's play, in empowering the community to raise their voice against injustices in the society. As this Act mandates timely response to citizens requests for government information.

Meanwhile guest speaker, Ms. Meenakshi Natrajan, MP (Member of parliament in Lok Sabha)  appreciated the effort by SAHYOG project . Addressing the gathering she said “RTI Act is passed but its awareness among rural mass is very poor,  hence the civil societies, NGOs has to take this responsibility to spread awareness”. Other invitees were Mr. Neeraj from KABIR, Divya Jyoti (Advocate) from Human Right Law Network (HRLN), Ms. Santosh from Parivartan.

A special report was presented by Ms. Ankita Anand, General Secretary of NCPRI (National Campaign of People on Right To Information Act), the study done on RTI Act 2005. It was very informative to the participants and requested the local NGO's to form a Network for better implementation of this Act.

Downward Accountability: A Hand Book on RTI Act in Hindi & English was  distributed to the participants, which was compiled by Mr. Kuldeep Singh, Project Manager, Sahyog, Delhi.
